When loading text (.txt) files into the Firefox© Browser, Cantofish© likes UTF-8 encoding.

0. Configuration hint: with version 1.38 you can select a secondary Romanization.
If you choose “Pinyin…” as the secondary, the resulting popup translations
will include a Mandarin pronuciation in addition the the Cantonese one!
1. Open the Firefox browser.
2. Toggle Cantofish on.
3. Load a webpage or a txt document into the browser.
4. hover mouse over Hanzi(Chinese character), and the popup translation of the word will appear.
5. During popup:
[A] key, AlternateView, will place the popup window in 1 of 3 locations.
[C] key will COPY the hanzi+translation onto Windows® clipboard.
[S] key wlll APPEND & SAVE this line of hanzi+translation into Cantofish’s save-file.
[Shift] or [Enter] will switch the dictionary. (What does this do??)

How To Get an Arbritrary Translation

1. Turn on/Toggle the Lookup Bar.
2. In the Lookup Bar field, enter a Chinese hanzi/English word or English pronunciation equivalent.
3a.    Hit the “Search”(magnifying glass icon) button. This makes the software do internal calculations.
3b.    Next, hit the “Copy” icon; this puts the calculated results onto the Windows® clipboard  OR
Hit the “Save” icon; this appends the calculated results onto the “save file” Cantofish save-file.

Examples of Pinyin Tones/Tone Marks (Mandarin)

Tone 1 = 安 ān an1; mark looks like a straight horizontal line.
Tone 2 = 林 lín lin2; mark start goes from lower left to upper right.
Tone 3 = 省 shěng sheng3; mark looks like an inverted circumflex
Tone 4 = 記 jì ji4; mark goes from upper left to lower right
Tone 5 = 馬 mǎ ma5; mark looks like an inverted circumflex (how does this differ from Tone 3?)
